This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz
Last February, some friends and I started a book club. So far it’s been quite a success–we have read some great books, had lots of interesting discussions, and consumed many pizzas and bottles of wine.
This past Sunday we discussed This is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz. We have a pretty complex voting system, and this was one I put up for nomination.
It was a great discussion; we disagreed about the structure, the characters, the meaning, and focused on the book for quite a while. The topic I found most interesting was what Yunior (and Diaz) thinks of women. The female characters (with the exception of Yunior’s mother) were the weak link in this otherwise well-drawn and incredibly lyrical collection.
What did you think of this book? Are you in a book club, and if so, have you discussed this book? Let me know in the comments!
