Girlfriend Getaway: Blue Mountain
I spent this past weekend skiing at Blue Mountain near Collingwood, Ontario with two of my oldest friends, Jenna and Nadia.
Jenna is living in Canada temporarily, so Nadia and I flew from New York to Toronto to meet up with her. She picked us up from the airport early Friday morning in a gigantic 4×4 and we headed off to the mountains!
We spent Friday getting situated, hanging in the hot tub (outside!), and catching up over wine and dinner at the hotel restaurant.
Saturday, we hit the slopes. Jenna is a more advanced skier than Nadia and I, so she spent most of the day on double black diamond trails with another friend while Nadia and I explored almost every blue on the mountain. (We did meet up in the middle of the day for PBJs and hot cocoa.)
I took a couple of spills but was proud to have handled one double black gracefully after I made a wrong turn. (I was terrified, and kept repeating out loud “you can do this. Focus. Go slow. You can do this.” It worked!)
Later, we soaked our achy muscles in the hot tub and then Jenna cooked us a pasta dinner (with microwaved cookie dough for dessert–sounds weird but it was yummy.)
We spent Sunday morning snowshoeing on a free guided tour. It was super easy to learn, lots of fun, and an amazing workout! My calves are still screaming.
Unfortunately, we had to head to the airport after lunch. It was a short trip but we packed in tons of fun, friend time, and outdoor action into just three days. It was a last-minute trip and I’m so glad we were able to pull it off!
When was the last time you went away with friends?
