Apartment hunting in NYC

I am officially back from my short blogging hiatus. The past two weeks have been insane, between a huge (exciting) project at work and finding myself a new place.

People always say looking for an apartment in New York City is horrible, but I never really believed them. My current roommates and I found our place (a steal!) on Craigslist, and it was the second one we looked at.

This time, I got it. The process was so stressful–dealing with brokers, chasing false listings, having to run out in the middle of the day to see places, and most of all doing everything at the last minute (you generally have no choice–nobody wants to show you anything until they’re ready to rent it).

Mike and I are moving in together (!) and we ended up finding a fantastic apartment on the east side. We spent today packing, but first we made video tours of our respective apartments. It was his idea and I’m so glad he thought of it–they came out really well and I think it will be nice to look back on my first NYC home. (As an adult. I lived on the upper west side as a baby and toddler.)

Now we’re counting down to moving day!
